About Us

Bascote Lodge Stud is run by a farming family who have bred cattle and horses for over 20 years. We have our own herd of Traditional Gypsy Cob mares and our own stallion, Kingmaker, who comes from a long line of exceptional true Gypsy Cobs bred by the legendary Price family of Wales.

Kingmaker is the son of Bullseye, a fantastic, heavy piebald stallion with the most amazing feather. Bullseye is the son of Bob The Blagdon who is the most prolific blagdon stallion alive today. Bob's sire is the legendary Lob, who's name appears in the ancestry of true Gypsy Cobs around the world.

Kingmaker sires foals that are perfect examples of what a true Gypsy Cob should be: Neat, small head with small ears; short, strong back; broad chest; rounded 'apple-shaped' rump; thick luxurious feather from knee and hock; short pastern and thick bone and a wonderful calm temperament. This year we have our first foals from Kingmaker's son, Bascote Charles and are very impressed with their quality.

Bascote Lodge Stud has a herd of superb brood mares, each one having originated from the legendary Tom Price herd. Our mares range in height from 13hh to over 15hh and have been individually chosen for their colour, conformation and temperament.

We have a small selection of colts and fillies born in 2011 for sale. Each foal is handled daily and by 7 months of age is weaned and halter broken. All of our foals are micro-chipped and CHAPS registered when sold. Any foal sold before weaning has weekly photos taken which we can email to the buyer with a regular progress report.

We pride ourselves in the care of all of our stallions, mares and foals and enjoy finding the right home for each one! Many of our foals are sold to showing homes. We also breed for the leisure market, driving and breeding.
